One day in August, a huge monsoon swept through the Delaware and Maryland Shores. It dropped a terrifying number of inches of rain on the coastal areas and put a damper on a lot of people’s plans. But Chris and Rob? They couldn’t have cared less. Sure, the gorgeous outdoor ceremony they’d planned along the marsh and golf courses in beautiful Bishopville, MD was getting moved indoors and all the looming clouds were making guests and passersby look on with concern. But, the truth was no crazy storm could ruin this parade for them. Chris and Rob beamed the entire day – knowing the real reason this day was so special. I love a couple who is able to keep sight of what’s important amidst all the chaos and unexpected twists. Because that is truly what life together is all about.
Shortly after the ceremony, the rain subsided for a few, brief minutes. Watching the windows closely, I knew it was our chance. Chris and Rob responded immediately and went with the flow, allowing the stormy skies to create a dramatic backdrop for the very short time we had outside. Later in the evening, just before the end of the night, I watched the as the pouring rain became a light mist. I asked Chris & Rob to trust me, and I led them outside with an umbrella, giving them a little direction and knowing full well we would have a minute or less to make a shot. And less than a minute was indeed all we had before the thunder cracked and the buckets of rain came down once more. But, in the end, 30 seconds was all we needed in the rain, with an adventurous couple in love and a big, black umbrella.
I have to give so much credit to this wonderful couple for being a literal calm in the storm. Their wedding day may not have been what they’d planned, but I do believe it was everything they’d always dreamed.
Congrats to Chris & Rob – and may your adventurous spirits be your beacon of light on every stormy night you share!
